It's Bio-Enzymatic!

I believe I've already expressed how we have a hard time keeping a clean house. There are two things that really get neglected in this house: dusting and cleaning the tile floors. The former has always been acceptable to me. I'm never embarrassed of my dust or turned off by dust in other peoples' homes. The latter, however, I'm embarrassed about.

We've lived in this condo for almost two years now and I've only taken a rag to the floors a handful of times. Yes, a rag, on my hands and knees. Believe it or not, this is easier on my body than using a mop, which kills my back. Maybe that's why I only do it when my floor disgusts me. Anyway, the tile in this condo is grey slate, and not smooth. Dirt and dog hair are decently masked, but crumbs and baby powder and leaves from outside are another story. This tile is a major pain to clean.

My slate floor is kind of a jerk.

Jamie and I had finally had it with this floor and he resorted to Google to find the ideal way to maintain our tile. He came home from Home Depot with a micro fiber dust mop for grabbing all those li'l crummies and hair, a regular mop and bucket, a scrub brush (though that's for the carpets, a whole different story!), and some Rejuvinate Bio-Enzymatic Tile and Grout Cleaner.

This cleaning spray reads as miraculous. Basically, you spray it all over your tile and wipe it around to spread it evenly with a mop or a rag. (I used our new mop, duh.) Then you let it dry.

Wait, what?

Okay, so you let it dry then you wipe it off with a mop and clean water.

That's it.

Apparently, these super enzymes sit and clean and clean, then you wipe away what they've lifted off your floor. But see, when you wipe them away, it reactivates the enzymes leftover on the floor to keep cleaning. As a bonus, it supposedly "lightens and brightens" your grout with every use. It sounds just too easy; spray, wipe, dry, wipe, tada! (I guess that doesn't differ too much from cleaning floors the old fashioned way, but it sure seems easier to me.)

I can't quite tell you if this really is a miracle product, yet. I've just applied it to the kitchen and the guest bathroom and am currently letting it dry. I guess I'll have to keep you posted.

Now we just need to figure out how to get the stains out of the carpet from the other day when Chuck decided to hurk all over the dining room...

  1. For this and many other reasons, is why I love science. Cleaning enzymes are awesome! They also have bacteria added to plastics to help them biodegrade faster in our landfills.

  2. I have enzyme cleaners for my linoleum, laminate and carpet from Bio-Kleen. LOVE them all. It's like having an entire army of microscopic maids scrubbing the "stuff" out of the spot while you sit back and sip cocktails. Plus, enzymes are super at removing odors as well. Who wants odors anywhere? Not this girl. Bac-Out enzyme cleaner is the only thing that has ever worked to keep odors out of my front-load washing machine!

  3. So your blog post about how do we drip stuff down the kitchen cabinets inspired me! I've had this same project on my list for over a month now and just haven't found the time to accomplish it. I have to be at work at 2a so I'll be keeping myself awake all evening cleaning, to include scrubbing the kitchen cabinets. Oh, and my kitchen floor. OMG, I hate having the front blinds open during the day anymore because when the sun shines in on the kitchen floor it spotlights ALL of the dust and dirt. I'm a hands and knee floor scrubber myself, so i'll be waiting to hear how well your new Rejuvinate Bio-Enzymatic Tile and Grout Cleaner works. I love cleaning (I know that's odd, not many people love to clean), but it's so hard to find the time to do it, and it seems like I go through the house cleaning room to room, and by the time I'm done cleaning the last room the first room needs cleaned again. Kinda sounds like your Mom's remodeling right?! Once she finishes remodeling every room in the house she starts back at the first room. You're definitely not alone when it comes to finding the time to get everything cleaned, I'm sure most households are the same way, unless they hire cleaning help! As far as getting stains out of the carpet goes I have no advice for you there. I went out and bought an expensive top of the line Hoover carpet cleaner and shampoo the carpets atleast twice a month, and I still see spots on the carpet when I'm done. I guess it probably doesn't help that Princess pees all over the carpet ALL the time. Guess it's true what they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks! So maybe my advice for you on the carpet stains is to try the cheapest tricks first, and if you find a good remedy fill me in! Good luck and i'll be waiting to hear how your new floor cleaner works!
